Australia have announced their Twenty20 International squad for an upcoming series against Pakistan scheduled to be played in November.
Australia will have a new captain for next month’s T20 Internationals against Pakistan with their Test stars set to miss the series that ends in the same week the Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign begins.
Josh Inglis, Adam Zampa and Matt Short are in the mix to fill in for Mitch Marsh as T20 skipper against Pakistan after none of the Test incumbents were picked in a 13-man squad for the games in Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart.
Australia T20 Team: Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.
It is inevitable: the Test squad yet to be named will converge on Perth before the series opener against India in the middle of three-T20 match that Australia plays Pakistan. There is a T20I to be played in Hobart on November 18. On the other end of the country, the first Test against India starts on November 22.
The coaching assignment will go to Andre Borovec, who has already done it for a five-game T20I series against India tacked on after last year’s ODI World Cup. He noted that the regular assistants under him are Michael di Venuto and Dan Vettori. Those two coaches will continue to oversee matters for the series against Pakistan before shifting attention to Test matches and giving way for Borovec in case there is a T20’s series involved.
