LAHORE – Wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan has been named captain of Pakistan’s ODIs and T20Is teams.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that batting allrounder Salman Ali Agha will be the vice-captain of the Pakistan team in the white-ball format.
Mohammad Rizwan’s First Assignment:
He will also lead Pakistan in the entire ODIs against Zimbabwe for the first time.
His debut as the first captain has been marked with an entire T20Is series with Australia as his opponents in this international cricketing duel.
With Rizwan not making it to Pakistan’s team for T20Is with Zimbabwe, there is no option left with the Pakistan management except announcing Salman Ali Agha as Rizwan’s deputy who would act like a captain during Zimbabwe T20Is.
Since he debuted in white-ball cricket back in 2015, Rizwan has played 74 ODIs and 102 T20Is so far scoring 5,401 runs inclusive of four centuries and holding 143 catches behind the wickets. On November 4, Rizwan will become Pakistan’s 31st ODI captain by leading the side in the first ODI against Australia at Melbourne, while he will be the 12th to captain Pakistan in T20Is as he will lead the side for the first time when the T20I of the series against Australia will come on November 14 at Brisbane.
Mohammad Rizwan: “To represent Pakistan on the international stage is the greatest honor, and to now be tasked with leading such an incredibly talented and exciting bunch of players is a massive privilege. Being able to join the list of some of Pakistan’s all-time great limited-overs captains is truly the icing on the cake.”.
“I am committed to giving my absolute best in this role and look forward to working closely with the selectors, coaches, and my immensely talented teammates. Together, we hope to meet and exceed the expectations of our fans and supporters.”.
“Pakistani cricket has all the potential across formats, and I feel that we will continue our good performance against England and will take it to greater heights during what is going to be a tough and busy season of white-ball cricket.”
Mohsin Naqvi: “I am sure Rizwan’s leadership abilities, supported by his genuine commitment and passion for the game, will enable him to shape this promising talent into a winning combination over time.
“Rizwan has earned respect among his peers and colleagues by the sheer virtue of his hard work and positive attitude. I have no hesitation that those qualities, supplemented with game knowledge and performance, will inspire the next lot of Pakistan cricketers.”.
“The PCB has always been fully committed to supporting our players and staff, and we will continue to stand by Rizwan as he takes on this important role. We are optimistic that under his leadership, Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team will once again become a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.”
