Mohammad Rizwan will be the new captain of Pakistan’s T20 and ODI teams.

LAHORE – Mohammad Rizwan likely to take the place of Babar Azam from the position as the latter has resigned as the head of Pakistan’s T20 and ODI teams, sources have revealed to Pakistan Observer. These sources will now be sending word down to the PCB Chairman announcing this decision considering the underperformance of the national cricket team in the world cup recently.

Former vice-captain Rizwan boasts a strong legacy of leadership, most notably taking the Multan Sultans to the top of the Pakistan Super League in 2021. A great quality that he as a leader has been garnering advocacy from several officials and most notably from head advisor Gary Kirsten. Selectors seem to think of the same, as they have acknowledged that Rizwan is capable of leading the team into its next chapter.

In this new setup, Salman Ali Agha is likely to emerge as the vice-captain and further strengthen Rizwan’s leadership. Pakistani squad will look to enter this new chapter with a fresh wave of confidence, especially after their winning Test series against England, which has elevated their expectations in the shorter formats.

Rizwan has of late been turning every eyeball his way not only for the leader-in-making but also with top individual performances. He, while playing against England, became the fifth Pakistani wicketkeeper to attain 2,000 runs in Test cricket within as many as 57 innings. With the task ahead to lead the national side, fans and pundits look at how Rizwan is going to write his pages for Pakistan cricket into the future in T20 and ODI.
